2022. 01. 21.

In the remit of the today’s plenary session, the European Parliament adopted its report on the proposal of digital services act, which aims to protect fundamental rights of user in the online world. Fidesz MEP Edina Tóth emphasized: „The time has come to stop very large online platforms, which unilaterally lay down the rules, and let illegal content, such as terrorist content, spread”.

According to MEP Tóth, the economic and societal impacts of tech giants are perceptible for everyone, considering that social media influences our everyday life, consumption habits and decisions. „Thus, one of the greatest challenges of our time is whether we will be able to step out of the „digital bubble” and rule technology, or we will let technology to prevail over our life”, added the Fidesz politician.

„We must stop tech giants to unilaterally set the ground rules. It is up to the Member States to determine which contents should be taken down from the surface of platforms. I firmly believe it can best be achieved if we guarantee outmost transparency and fundamental rights in the digital world”, articulated MEP Edina Toth.

“We can’t allow for our citizens to be victims of platforms’ censorship”, closed her remarks the Fidesz politician.
