An employee of MSZP MEP István Ujhelyi, working in Brussels, made a left-wing scam video about Hungarian healthcare, spreading fake news and slander. In addition to being another ugly fail for the Socialists, the case also raises suspicions of illicit party funding.
The Socialist MEP, who concerns himself on a daily business as to how Hungary is using its allocated EU funds, seems to be generous with the money spent on running his own office. According to information released in recent days, it was one of the employees of Socialist MEP István Ujhelyi, working in Brussels, who recorded the left-wing fake video ordered and later published by the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP). In the video, a woman claiming to be a paramedic makes numerous statements that have been proven to be lies and slander about the conditions experienced in the Hungarian healthcare system during the coronavirus epidemic.
After it turned out that the woman was not in any health records, the Hungarian Socialist Party deleted the video from its social media channels but did not take responsibility for the national scandal. Later, Ujhelyi’s colleague was forced to admit on his Facebook page that he was involved in making the leftist scam video.
According to the Rules of Procedure of the European Parliament, the activities of staff employed by MEPs and paid by Parliament are limited to tasks related to the work of an MEP in the European Parliament. István Ujhelyi’s employee carried out the task not for the MEP Ujhelyi but for his party, which is considered a serious irregularity and prohibited party funding.
It is memorable that in 2013, the MSZP was already involved in a video-fabricating scandal in which paid actors wanted to damage the ruling party in a by-election campaign with lies and false news. After the outbreak of the scandal, both the communications director of the MSZP and the editor-in-chief of the opposition portal that published the fake video, hvg.hu, were forced to resign.
It is an unprecedented scandal that a political party in the time of the coronavirus epidemic, instead of taking active action against fake news rumors about the epidemic, itself produces and publishes left-wing fake videos of scams and slander related to current healthcare using official social media channels. The Fidesz-KDNP Delegation to the European Parliament is turning to the Bureau of the European Parliament responsible for ethical issues and the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) to investigate the serious scandal.
