Letter from MEP Tamás Deutsch to Máté Kocsis

MEP Tamás Deutsch, Head of the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament, has written a letter to Máté Kocsis, Fidesz parliamentary group leader. In his letter, he proposes to convene an extraordinary meeting of the European Affairs Committee of the National Assembly to investigate the political manoeuvres of the Dollar left to prevent Hungarian citizens from accessing the EU development funds to which they are entitled, thereby causing them tangible and serious damage. The letter comes after Miklós Hajnal, a Momentum MP, admitted in a recent televised statement that his party’s MEPs, Anna Donáth and Katalin Cseh, had done their utmost to prevent EU funds from reaching Hungary.

Dear Mr Group Leader,

As it is known, Miklós Hajnal, Member of the Hungarian Parliament and member of the board of directors of the Momentum Movement, recently admitted in a statement to the ATV television channel that his party’s MEPs Anna Donáth and Katalin Cseh had played a major role in Brussels initiating a rule of law and infringement procedure against Hungary, which resulted in Hungary being denied access to EU funds to which it was legally entitled for years.

The admission means nothing less than that Momentum MEPs broke their oath and betrayed their voters by conspiring against Hungary, causing serious harm to millions of Hungarians. We believe that an elected representative must act in the interests of his or her country and its citizens in all circumstances and that this moral imperative cannot be overridden by any ideological conviction or political calculation.

In view of the obvious seriousness of this matter, on behalf of the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament, I respectfully request the Leader of the Fidesz parliamentary group to initiate an extraordinary meeting of the European Affairs Committee of the National Assembly to investigate the ongoing smear campaign against Hungary by Momentum MEPs. Also, in view of the upcoming European Parliament elections, the Hungarian people have the right to know what political manoeuvres are being carried out by the Dollar left in order to deliberately harm Hungarian citizens.
