The evaluation of the European Year of Youth programme was debated in a plenary session of the European Parliament with Marija Gabriel, Commissioner for Education and Youth. Andrea Bocskor, Fidesz MEP, pointed out that “the primary aim of the programme was to promote and bring the European Union closer to young people. It is unacceptable, however, that the European Commission has recently taken a discriminatory decision to restrict access for Hungarian students and teachers to the Erasmus and Horizon programmes. Fidesz and KDNP MEPs will continue to do their utmost to stop this unlawful measure!”
“Erasmus, one of the EU’s most successful programmes for 30 years, has a key role to play in raising the visibility of the EU and promoting it among young people. It is, therefore, regrettable that a recent discriminatory decision has been taken by the European Commission to unlawfully deny Hungarian students’ access to the mobility programme. This is unacceptable! The Fidesz-KDNP MEPs will continue to work to ensure that Hungarian students and teachers can participate in the programmes available to them under the law” – stressed MEP Andrea Bocskor.
“The voices of all young people must be heard by the European Commission and I hope that this issue will be resolved as soon as possible so that Hungarian students, teachers and universities are not penalised by a discriminatory and unlawful decision of Brussels”, the MEP said.
