International film premiere in Brussels

2021. 11. 05.

The Brussels’ Office of the Foundation for a Civic Hungary and the “Magyar Hullám” (Hungarian Wave) Public Life and Cultural Association are jointly organising a screening of the political thriller based on real events entitled ‘The Cost of Deception’ (“Elk*rtuk”), on 9 November in Brussels. “In 2006, at the order of Ferenc Gyurcsány, police boots trampled on the rule of law in Hungary, which was by then an EU Member State. And yet, this was completely ignored by the rulers of Brussels, the champions of the ‘rule of law’ and the activists of the European left. If they are even a little bit interested in the real defence of the rule of law, they should come and see the film representing Gyurcsány’s brutal attack on the rule of law by means of police terror”, MEP Tamás Deutsch, Head of the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament pointed out.

On the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution, the left-wing government led by Ferenc Gyurcsány abused its power and used brutal and illegal police violence against its citizens, thus shaking the rule of law to its foundations. The international premiere of this political thriller based on the true story of police violence at the 2006 commemoration and the failure of the left-wing government will be held in Brussels on 9 November. The screening will be followed by a roundtable discussion with the filmmakers.

MEP Tamás Deutsch, Head of the Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament, emphasized that “the Brussels premiere has a special significance because we are constantly being lectured about the rule of law here. In 2006, however, at the order of left-wing prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsány, police boots trampled on the rule of law in Hungary, which was by then an EU Member State. And yet, this was completely ignored by the rulers of Brussels, the champions of the ‘rule of law’ and the activists of the European left. If they are even a little bit interested in the real defence of the rule of law, they should come and see the film representing Gyurcsány’s brutal attack on the rule of law by means of police terror.”
