Infrastructural projects could boost the enlargement process

2020. 06. 23.

The European Parliament’s Transport and Tourism Committee (TRAN) had an exchange of views with Adena Valean, Commissioner responsible for transport policy, about the revision of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).  Fidesz MEP Andor Deli highlighted: ,,The Western Balkan region must be also included in the TEN-T developments hence it has a key role for the integration of  this region and for boosting the enlargement process.”

The EU needs to send a strong message to the candidate countries to show that we take the enlargement seriously. One of the best ways to prove this could be that in the framework of TENT we build new infrastructural investments that connect the Western Balkan region to the EU, increase its accessibility and help its citizens and businesses. The Western Balkans must be treated as integral part of the TEN-T network when it comes to its revision,” said Deli.

,,I am also convinced that there should be a new coordinator with clear mandate to handle infrastructural projects of this region. We must utilize the capacity of the new Western Balkans’ Transport Community which is now fully operational. I would like, therefore, to see the European Commission moving in this direction during the revision of the TEN-T Regulation” – added the Hungarian MEP.
