At the plenary session of the European Parliament, the issue of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, which started almost a year ago, was debated today. Fidesz MEP Andrea Bocskor, highlighted: “Russia’s aggression and illegal war against Ukraine has been going on for a year, which we strongly condemn, and we stand up for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in every forum. We must not become exhausted by the situation, and our solidarity with the people of Ukraine, who are going through a terrible ordeal as a result of the war, must not become a hollow phrase. Everything must be done for peace!”
“The war demanded enormous sacrifices, tore families apart, and broke the future and dreams of young people, regardless of nationality or mother tongue, since the Hungarians, Romanians, and other nationalities living in Ukraine are all victims of the Russian aggression and are fighting shoulder to shoulder,” added the Member of the European Parliament.
MEP Andrea Bocskor pointed out: „We support Ukraine’s candidacy for EU membership. Despite the difficulties of the war, Ukraine continues its integration into the European Union. I hope that the linguistic and educational rights of national minorities living in the country will be guaranteed during the fulfillment of the accession conditions, in accordance with the Copenhagen criteria and the international commitments. The new Ukrainian law on minorities adopted last December, in its current form, does not comply with the principle of equal rights, so it needs to be amended, and the Union must pay close attention to this!”
“The tragic images of the war in Ukraine have been in the news for a year, but the world must not get exhausted of them, and solidarity must not become just an empty phrase. What could really save lives is peace! The tragedy of the earthquake in Turkey could not be prevented, but in Ukraine we really would be able to save lives with peace, so we should strive for that! – the MEP concluded her speech.
