Immediate action is needed in the fight against diabetes!

Today, the European Parliament adopted with a large majority its motion for a resolution on prevention, management, and better care of diabetes in the EU. Fidesz MEP Edina Tóth emphasized in her speech on Monday, that due to the growing number of people affected by the disease, there is an urgent need to work on an action plan aimed at preventing and treating diabetes.

The number of people with diabetes is increasing worldwide, and together with insulin resistance, it has become a major public health problem of our time. “In the past two years, the pandemic has made the situation of those living with the disease even more difficult and significantly reduced the possibilities for prevention” – the politician pointed out.

MEP Edina Tóth emphasized that she had already asked the European Commission to “develop an action plan for the prevention and management of diabetes”, which unfortunately was rejected. “However, the good news is that the Hungarian government pays special attention to the treatment of diabetics, so those affected receive help in several areas,” said the MEP.

The politician is confident that “the position of the Commission will change in the near future, and it will be possible to act jointly and effectively against diabetes”.
