Hungary supports an immediate ceasefire, peace negotiations, life and a future instead of a war
2024. 02. 07.
The European Parliament today debated Russia’s aggression against Ukraine for almost two years and the need for EU aid to Ukraine. “The war in Ukraine has been going on for almost two years, and since then, you have been repeating the same empty phrases that we will support Ukraine as long as we need to, and then you will leave the room and go back to your quiet lives. You are burning with war fever, making political capital out of a tragedy in which hundreds of thousands of people have died and millions have lost their homes and are living through the horrors of war. Enough is enough! A ceasefire and peace negotiations must be called for, and a lasting peace as soon as possible is the only solution! Enough of the lying slander against Hungary! Hungary has stood up for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine from the very beginning, condemns Russian aggression, and is providing the greatest humanitarian aid in its history to the Ukrainian people,” Fidesz MEP Andrea Bocskor addressed the pro-war liberal majority in the Parliament.
“Young and old people, women and children are waking up or going to bed to the sirens of air raids, not knowing when they will lose a loved one. And the longer the war goes on, the greater the destruction, the longer it will take to deal with the psychological and physical consequences. As a Hungarian from Transcarpathia, this is the side of the war I can see, that every day soldiers are being recruited and buried, including Transcarpathian Hungarians, and life is becoming more and more difficult”, the MEP added.
Andrea Bocskor underlined: “We must call for a ceasefire and peace talks. A lasting peace as soon as possible is the only solution! Every day of war brings more victims and destruction — it must end!
Hungary stands for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, condemns Russian aggression, and is providing the largest humanitarian aid in its history to the people of Ukraine: it has taken in more than one million Ukrainian refugees, is providing kindergarten and school care, is providing free meals for refugee children, and is rebuilding a destroyed school and hospital in the Kyiv region. We support life and the future!
