Today the European Parliament debated the report concluding the work of the Special Committee on the COVID-19 pandemic (COVI), which was originally intended to examine the European response to the epidemic, assess the decisions taken during the pandemic and draw the necessary conclusions. In her speech, Fidesz MEP Edina Tóth pointed out that the report in its current form cannot be supported because it does not address the issues that most concern European citizens while also making exaggerated and misleading conclusions about the EU’s performance.
In her speech, MEP Edina Tóth stressed that the report poses problems regarding both its content and timing, as it is significantly late. She stressed that “it is also unacceptable that the previously promised fact-finding on the vaccine contracts concluded by the Commission via text messages has not been carried out”.
“We have to say that Europe lagged behind in dealing with the pandemic, and it is only thanks to the swift decisions taken by Member States that it was able to overcome the challenges posed by the epidemic. Therefore, it is time for real fact-finding instead of attacking Member States”, the Fidesz MEP stressed.
