MEPs debated the EU’s competition policy annual report 2022 during the European Parliament plenary session. In her plenary speech, Fidesz MEP Enikő Győri pointed out: “Europe needs a fair competition policy that promotes competitiveness, easily accessible funding, transparent rules, and quick decisions. But this is not the case at the moment.”
The MEP emphasized: “Brussels is extremely slow to react to change. It has loosened state aid rules, but so far only the big players have benefited from that, which threatens to distort the internal market. In the case of Hungary, the Commission was waiting four years to approve an investment from our own fund. This is unacceptable. Only 30% of the recovery money has been spent, and Brussels is playing political games with Hungary and Poland. And the EU’s trade policy has become ideological” highlighted the MEP.
“No wonder that while in 2010 the EU accounted for 22% of world GDP, today it accounts for only 17%. China has doubled its share, overtaking us, and the US has increased its lead. Only one of the world’s 10 largest companies is European, and European-based companies are preparing to relocate overseas because of the US Inflation reduction Act.
“The Commission should urgently stop its reactive policy and finally recognise Europe’s interests and take conscious action for our competitiveness” called on the Commission the Hungarian MEP.
