Press Release by MEP Edina Tóth
One of the main topics of today’s extraordinary one-day plenary meeting in Brussels was the European Union’s response to the coronavirus epidemic. Fidesz MEP Edina Tóth emphasized that it is hard to define the spread of the virus as it varies from country to country. The objective, however, is everywhere the same: to save as many lives as possible and to stop the spread of the disease.
MEP Edina Tóth drew attention to the importance of reliable and up-to-date information and presented the measures implemented by the Hungarian government as a good example. In Hungary a website has been set up to provide information on the coronavirus and also a toll-free emergency number exists that is accessible 24/7.
“If the virus continues to spread, a particularly negative process could begin. The continuing instability and decrease of business confidence may reduce the investment demand that can lead to economic downturn. Therefore, it is extremely important that we support our businesses. I call on the Commission and the European Investment Bank to provide assistance to the most affected sectors in this extraordinary situation,” closed her remarks the EPP Group MEP.
