Consumer goods with a longer lifespan on the EU market!

The European Parliament held a debate on the reparability of consumer goods. Fidesz MEP Edina Tóth welcomed the proposal on the right to repair, which does not only save money for consumers, but it is also useful for our environment, as the amount of waste will decrease.

MEP Edina Tóth emphasized: “As a conservative politician, I believe that an existing thing is valuable, and as such, it should not be replaced with something new at the first opportunity. It cannot be that certain companies, in order to maximize their profits, force consumers to buy a new device, even in the case of the smallest defect, instead of repairing the existing one”.

According to the Fidesz MEP, it is therefore important to adopt the new regulation, since its purpose is to make it more attractive to repair defective products – be it a washing machine or a bicycle – and thereby increase the number of consumer goods that are repaired rather than thrown away. It is important that consumer devices are more durable and easier to repair, as this is the best way to promote the development of a circular economy.

“Brussels should deal more with such useful proposals that make the everyday lives of European consumers easier, instead of fake rule of law procedures.” – added the Fidesz MEP.
