Common charger for all devices

Fidesz MEP Edina Tóth welcomed yesterday evening’s plenary debate on the initiative of introducing common chargers which serves the interests of both consumers and the environment. She regretted however that the topic has been on the agenda for more than 10 years, and yet, no results have been reached.

„The costs of consumers would significantly decrease if a common charger was suitable not only to all mobile phones, but also tablets, e-book readers and other portable devices” – underlined the EPP Group politician.

According to MEP Tóth, it is of high importance to ensure that consumers are free to buy mobile devices, without spending on mobile charger. This can be achieved by removing the simultaneous sales of a new device with charger.

„The new rule would also be beneficial from an environmental point of view as it would result in considerably less electronic waste” – concluded her speech the Fidesz politician.
