Untreated hearing loss costs millions of euros every year – Hearing Awareness Week in the EP

MEP Ádám Kósa in cooperation with the European Hearing Instrument Manufacturers Association (EHIMA) and the European Federation of Hard of Hearing (EFHOH) organised a series of fully accessible hearing tests between 8 and 10 April 2013, as part of the Hearing Awareness Week in the European Parliament. Hearing impairment is the biggest invisible disability in the world and untreated hearing loss is estimated to cost some 213 million euros a year in Europe.

Sheltered workshops: new approach needed

Hungarian EPP Group MEP Ádám Kósa with his German fellow MEP Dieter-Lebrecht Koch, in cooperation with the European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities (EASPD) held a conference today in the European Parliament on the evolving concept of sheltered workshops in the EU. The aim of the event was to explore whether the sheltered workshops model complies with the objectives of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) - which is centered on building a more inclusive society - and discuss the way forward, also provide recommendations to the EU institutions.

Equal access to private cars for people with disabilities

A workshop was organised today in Brussels aimed at easing the transport of millions with disabilities in Europe. EPP Group MEPs Dieter-Lebrecht Koch, Ádám Kósa and Werner Kuhn and representatives of DG Justice of the European Commission as well as civil stakeholders and experts participated at the event. The opportunities the car industry may have in terms of production of accessible private cars and innovative solutions the industry is currently developing were discussed at the workshop.
