“Rather than lecturing Member States, the European Commission should address the rule of law problems of the EU institutions, especially the most serious internal corruption scandal ever in Brussels”, said Balázs Hidvéghi, Fidesz MEP, concerning the European Commission’s 2023 Rule of Law Report.
Balázs Hidvéghi, Fidesz MEP, said that the European Commission has repeatedly proven the lack of credibility of the so-called rule of law reports in recent years. He stressed that the report applies double standards, is based on false findings of civil society organisations, and is therefore not suitable to paint an unbiased picture of the rule of law situation in the Member States.
The MEP added that Brussels should first address the serious corruption scandal that has been going on for months, and it should answer the question of how EU budget money has been spent. Balázs Hidvéghi said that instead of harassing Member States, the European Commission should report on the internal rule of law problems of EU institutions.
