Brussels shall not endanger thousands of European jobs!

2023. 03. 30.

Today, the European Parliament (EP) held a debate on the stricter use of fluorinated-gases and ozone-depleting substances (F-gases) used in air conditioners, heat pumps and nuclear power plants. Fidesz MEP Edina Tóth pointed out: The EP’s proposal contains ill-considered EU bans, which puts thousands of European jobs at risk. In the current war and sanctions crisis, we absolutely cannot allow this!

In her plenary speech, MEP Edina Tóth pointed out that Brussels would introduce excessive bans to ensure that fluorinated-gases are only used to an extremely limited extent in various cooling equipment. “It is important to review the limit values currently in force, however, any new measures must be proportionate and sufficiently substantiated. Unfortunately, the EP’s proposal does not comply with these principles,” – she added.

“According to the MEP, manufacturers of household appliances should be given a reasonable deadline for the introduction of new technologies, providing adequate time to develop training and certification, as well as to conduct training. The transition to a climate-neutral economy must be fair in all respects, so I ask the Commission to put people and workers at the center of its legislative proposals!” – concluded her speech.
