Brussels hypocrisy must end!

The programme of the Belgian presidency of the European Union was debated by the European Parliament at its plenary session in Strasbourg on Tuesday. MEP Kinga Gál, President of the Fidesz Delegation to the European Parliament, stressed in her speech that a radical change is needed in Brussels, illegal immigration must be stopped, and the double standards of the rule of law against Hungary must be ended. Regarding Ukraine, she stressed that the Belgian Presidency’s priority must be a ceasefire and peace negotiations as soon as possible. She added that financial support for Ukraine is essential, but before that, the use of the money given to the country and the EU’s strategy towards Ukraine must be reviewed.

MEP Kinga Gál said that for the EU and the Belgian Presidency, the first priority must be a ceasefire and peace negotiations as soon as possible in order to achieve a lasting and just peace. The longer the war goes on, the more destruction there will be and the more human lives will be lost.

Fidesz MEP Kinga Gál added that financial support for Ukraine is essential, but it should be provided through Member States’ contributions, not through joint borrowing. In addition, she said, there are many issues that need to be clarified first. “How much money has the EU spent in Ukraine since the outbreak of the war, and on what? How has this money been used? Does the EU have a meaningful strategy in Ukraine? The war situation makes it impossible to plan four years ahead, so the amount of aid should be reviewed annually”, underlined the Fidesz MEP.

On migration, MEP Kinga Gál stressed that Brussels’ migration policy has failed and that innocent people are suffering the consequences on the streets of Western Europe. “Deportation is not working; migrants are becoming more violent and most of them are staying in Europe illegally. The migration pact imposed by Brussels is not a solution, it is part of the problem. We need a radical change; we need to strengthen the protection of our external borders, and we need to financially support the efforts of the Member States to stop illegal immigration.”

According to MEP Kinga Gál, the Belgian Presidency must also put an end to the double standards, the practice of unfairly portraying Hungary as a problem while glossing over real violations such as those in Warsaw. “The angry attacks are not hurting Hungary, they are tearing the Union apart. The left in Brussels wants to silence the voices of the Hungarian people, but we will not let them. We need an end to double standards, we need a change in June, when the sovereign side will put an end to this hypocrisy”, said MEP Kinga Gál.
