Brussels bureaucracy attacks Member States who defend EU borders

2021. 12. 15.

A plenary debate was held today in the European Parliament on the preparation of the European Council meeting on 16–17 December. MEP Tamás Deutsch, Head of Fidesz delegation to the European Parliament, pointed out that Europe has been at war with the tide of illegal migration and the forces supporting it for years. “In this fight, Europe is defended only by the Member States”, the head of the delegation added.

“Brussels bureaucracy is at best merely helpless and obstinate. At worst, it stabs in the back those Member States protecting the external borders of the Union and the millions of European citizens”, highlighted MEP Deutsch.

Meanwhile, it is clearer than ever that the European asylum and migration system is dysfunctional. “There is an urgent need for EU legislation that puts an end to illegal border-crossings and the mass abuse of asylum rights. Furthermore, the Commission must help Member States protect their borders in the way they prefer. The Commission’s proposals so far have gone in the opposite direction, including everything that is not needed and nothing that is needed for border protection”, he added.

“The only way for Europe to remain a continent of peace and security is to protect its citizens from the threat of illegal migration”, said MEP Tamás Deutsch.
