Battery technology makes electric aviation possible

2024. 01. 22.

The plenary session of the European Parliament adopted its report on electric aviation. “The report of the European Parliament states that battery technology will primarily play a significant role in the success of electric aviation, which confirms the strategic decisions made by the Hungarian government in this area,” Fidesz MEP from Vojvodina, Deli Andor pointed out in connection with the adoption of the report.

“Electrification of air transport would be of great importance in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but this sector also represents one of the biggest challenges. Due to the weight and limited capacity of the batteries, it is primarily possible to replace regional, short- and medium-haul flights with electrically powered aircraft. This would also provide significant opportunities in terms of developing the connectivity of the Central and Eastern European region,” said the Fidesz MEP.

“The adopted report makes it clear that, in addition to fuel cells, battery technology will play a strategic role in electric aviation. The Hungarian government recognized this strategic opportunity in time and made decisions that enable Hungary to play a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Europe,” MEP Deli added.
