New resources for housing intervention in favour of Roma

Press Release of MEP Lívia Járóka (Fidesz/EPP) – The European Parliament held a debate on the regulations governing the European Regional Development Fund as regards the eligibility of housing interventions in favour of marginalised communities. "As the only Roma Member of the European Parliament, I strongly object to the recent accusations against Fidesz - the Hungarian Civic Union - suggesting that members of my party have regularly expressed anti-Roma sentiments. Among the more than 140 parties of the 27 Member States represented in the EP, Fidesz was the only political formation to delegate an MEP of Roma origin.

Lívia Járóka MEP held a press conference today on the anti-Roma remark of Commissioner-Designate Maroš Šefčovič in which he claimed that Roma were the "exploiters of the Slovakian welfare system". Járóka, the only Roma Member of the European Parliament, said that such a collective condemnation of Europe's most vulnerable minority was unacceptable. She said that Šefčovič would have the opportunity to explain the issue at his Hearing next week in Strasbourg.

Almunia should keep his independence in the future

EU Budget adoption will support economic recovery – MEP Surján László, EPP Group

Following several months of negotiations managed by rapporteur László Surján, the EU Budget for 2010 was adopted with a clear support by the European Parliament at the Strasbourg plenary session today. The EPP Group considers this result as a great success, as the budget will provide further support for Europe in the economic recovery.

European Microfinance Facility can help social inclusion and create jobs.
