The European Parliament discussed the European Central Bank’s (ECB) activities in 2021 during its plenary session today. In her speech, Fidesz MEP Enikő Győri said: “The ECB’s role is to maintain price stability; by keeping prices in check, it can contribute to a favourable investment climate.”
The MEP warned people to be vigilant because of the surge in food and energy prices in particular. She pointed out that “Brussels’ energy policy is driving up prices, passing the cost of greening on to the people and families: an ideological approach discredits an otherwise important green policy. I hope that common sense will prevail at the ECB. I call on President Lagarde to resist the pressure from the left: greening is not the Central Bank’s task.”
The MEP also underlined that the moment to return to pre-crisis rules in monetary and fiscal policy must be well chosen: “Some would already want to perpetuate the one-off recovery fund, leaving the Union endlessly in debt. Although I think that easing is the right thing to do for economic recovery, we cannot live forever at the expense of future generations. Fiscal rules must be adjusted in the same spirit, involving all 27 Member States.”
Finally, the MEP, referring to the gender ideological attacks of the European left, wished President Lagarde to work with the best financial professionals in Europe, no matter if they are men or women.
