Some 300 people took part in the intimidating and provocative demonstration just days before the Hungarian national holiday, undermining peaceful cohabitation of the different nationalities in the area and peace in general. The event also violated the constitution of Ukraine and corresponding laws as well as responsibilities undertaken by the country in international agreements.
We urge the authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible and to take action against them to the full extent of the law. They must be made an example of so that, in the future, nothing of similar nature could happen to any minority communities living in Ukraine.
This extremist behavior reflects badly on the country in the European Union and delays the process of democratization of Ukraine.
